For someone lacking experience, planning a major corporate event with short notice can seem impossible, but for an experienced event production company, it’s just another day on the job.
Wizard of Ahs is used to creating magnificent private and corporate events all over the world and this one was no different. The grand opening for the brand new Greater Cleveland Aquarium ribbon cutting ceremony was customized for the venue, theme and crowd. Any event planner could have used a pair of giant scissors and red ribbon, but Wizard of Ahs went outside the box for this one.

Event Production Success Story: Surprise 50th Birthday Party

What do you give an aviation enthusiast for his 50th birthday? How about a surprise party at a local international airport?! Wizard of Ahs was contacted for event planning with only a week to produce an intimate yet exciting birthday party for 25 guests. After an in-depth interview with the birthday boy’s spouse, it was determined that something fun and unusual would be just the “ticket.” A few well-placed phone calls secured an unused Gate at the local international airport.

Since the birthday boy was also a foodie, Wizard of Ahs used our event production services to connect with an amazing personal chef and helped design an 8-course menu for this discriminating quinquagenarian. The food was served to a “King Arthur” table setup, all the while musically accompanied by a strolling guitarist. As the dessert course was served, the guitarist rolled out 3 sing-a-long parody songs written to highlight the antics and fo-paws of the guest of honors’ past 50 years.
One final event planning surprise – guests were able to take a 40-minute low altitude sightseeing flight around the city and/or fly a genuine flight simulator – attempting to land it on Hong Kong’s new airport runway!

Harley-Davidson Dealership Convention

Wizard of Ah's recently wrapped up the Harley-Davidson convention in Florida where we helped roll out the company's newest product - motorcycle insurance! That's right, Harley-Davidson now offers its customers its own branded insurance plans.
Wizard of Ah's was contacted just 6 weeks before the convention to pull together the event and create a unique, interactive experience for nearly 1,300 attendees.
The event featured a travel adventure theme and began with guests receiving a turnpike ticket when they checked in. Guests then set out en route to four destinations guided through the space by a carpet that looked like a roadway (complete with edge and center lines). The roadways lead them around the room to four separate areas decorated as the forest, mountains, beach and desert.

Each destination provided information about special features of Harley's new insurance plan. A trivia wheel at each destination allowed guests to participate in the process, recall what they learned and also win some fun prizes!
Attendees were given a stamp on their turnpike ticket after they visited each of the four areas and were then eligible to take their completed tickets to their final destination, an EZ Pass turnpike gate located in the middle of the space.

The "turnpike" gate had lanes with pre-programmed electronic prize wheels that guests could spin to win fabulous prizes, such as ipods, ipads, and X-Boxes. To add to the overall ambiance, the DJ was placed high above the gate and played “driving” music while guests dined on high-end heavy hors d'oeuvres.
Vitamix Celebrates its 90th Anniversary

This year marks the 90th anniversary of Vitamix. In honor of the special occasion Vitamix once again turned to Wizard of Ah's to create a one of a kind event for their annual employee meeting.
Highlights from the first day were a full entertainment production that showcased the dancing, singing and narrative talents of many of the company's employees and a special appearance by Marilu Henner. An awards banquet for 500 people was held on the second day acknowledging the many achievements of their employees.
For the stage show, Wizard of Ah's choreographed chronological eras with period videos, live actors and key dance numbers, some performed by Vitamix employees. Wizard of Ah’s also customized the lyrics to the popular dance song Dynamite by Taio Cruz. Employees were “revealed” and sang the lyrics to the song while dancers performed and the video images rolled. The result was a spectacular production that entertained and energized everyone!
From entertainment and design choreography to lighting, decor and the awards banquet, Wizard of Ah's produced the event creating a memorable 90th anniversary celebration for Vitamix.
Vitamix is a Cleveland based company that has been promoting a whole foods healthy lifestyle for 90 years. The first Vitamix blender was introduced in 1937; today its products are sold in over 80 countries.
Cleveland Medical Mart Groundbreaking Ceremony

Wizard of Ah's produced the Groundbreaking Ceremonies for the much anticipated Cleveland Medical Mart on January 14, 2011. Contracted less than three weeks prior to the event, the Wizard faced some unique challenges while planning the ceremony and luncheon for nearly 500 guests.
Since construction began on January 3, the site had already seen extensive excavation and construction. Wizard of Ah's had to first start by preparing the exposed roof of the subterranean portion of the convention center to hold the official groundbreaking area that would feature two side by side ceremony sites.
The two sites were needed in order to accommodate the fifteen different groups of people that had to be photographed holding shovels at the ceremonial dirt at the conclusion of the ceremony. Set up identically, the sites featured mural backdrops, groundbreaking dirt, hard hats and shovels and were framed with construction vehicles in the background. All of this, including a large stage with service industry workers, dignitaries, and political officials; seating and standing room for over 500, and a large contingent of media filled the clear roof and walled tent that allowed views of Cleveland’s skyline.
Afterward, nearly 500 local dignitaries, officials and guests were treated to a beautiful luncheon, also produced by the Wizard, at the Key Center Marriott Hotel in downtown Cleveland.
The medical industry is Cleveland's prime business growth sector and the main focus for the city's economic rejuvenation efforts. The Cleveland Medical Mart is unique because it will feature permanent showrooms for medical businesses and suppliers. Permanent showrooms are a relatively new concept in convention and trade shows but one that can be lucrative for cities that host them. Promising a constant stream of trade show visitors, the showrooms will bring much needed out of state revenue to the city. A convention center along with a grand ballroom will also be attached to the Medical Mart which is slated to be completed in September of 2013.

50th Anniversary of Pittsburgh's Light Up Night

The 2010 Light Up Night in Pittsburgh was a one-of-a-kind grand celebration jammed packed full of events both new and old to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Light Up Night. From the much loved traditional tree lightings and holiday exhibits to several new events, the 2010 holiday season was kicked off in the most spectacular way. A record number of people attended the two day event, making it the biggest Light Up Night to date.
Wizard of Ah's has produced the Santa Spectacular show for 13 years! The past 3 years the show has found a home at Point State Park. Tens of thousands of people gathered near the entrance of the park to watch the start of the show which featured local dancers and singers along with a singing Santa Claus on a 40 foot wide stage. Near the end of the program the stage split down the middle, allowing the crowd to walk through the stage while the show was in progress and under a canopy of artificial snow – heading into the park towards the 80 foot tall Duquesne Light tree. Santa Claus capped off the evening's events by throwing his signature fireball at the Christmas tree to light it up and simultaneously kick off the choreographed firework show at the Point, shot this year from barges on the river.
